Ministry of Education: Salient Points

     The Ministry of Education (MOE) is the main sponsor of education in the Union of Myanmar and is functioning with the following vision:
 

     To create an education system that will generate a learning society capable of facing the challenges of the Knowledge Age Functions of the Ministry of Education

     The main responsibility of the Ministry of Education is to implement educational plans laid down by the government to achieve educational objectives prescribed in the education policy and education Acts. The tasks of the Ministry include:

• To promote vocational and technical education

• To allow private and non-governmental organizations to participate in the development of education programmes to a certain degree

• To review curricula and syllabuses and modernize them in line with the prevailing situation

• To promote educational research

• To develop an education system which uplifts patriotism and morale and safeguards cultural heritage and national character

• To narrow the gap among urban, rural and border areas regarding basic education

• To universalize primary education

     The Ministry is focusing on the following educational programmes based on the social objectives laid down by the government:

• development of an education system in consonant with the political, economic and social situation of the country

• increasing enrolment and retention rates at all levels of basic education

• enhancement of teacher education

• expansion of non-formal education
