Myanmar Youth Association donates Books for three ministries

Yangon, 21 May - Books donated by wellwishers for development of the education sector in Myanmar were handed over to the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Culture at Tatmadaw Guest House this evening.

Vice-Chief of Military Intelligence Maj-Gen Kyaw Win, on behalf of the donors, handed over the books numbering about 4,000 to the deputy ministers of the respective ministries. The books were donated by the Myanmar Youth Association formed with Myanmars pursuing or lecturing higher studies of in the US, American friends and families and students from various countries. They have already donated over 25,000 books, and books arrived in Myanmar in March and December 2002, May and September 2003, and May 2004. More books arrives at Yangon Port.

Scholars from US observe Plenary Session of National Convention

YANGON, 8 July — Scholars from Yale University, Columbia University and New York University in the United States of America led by Professer Daw Win Win Kyi of Bergen Community College, Yale University, visited the Plenary Session of the National Convention at the Pyidaungsu Hall of Nyaunghnapin Camp in Hmawby Township at 8.30 am today.

The scholars, accompanied by officials of Office of the Chief of Military Intelligence, arrived at the Plenary Session of the National Convention where they were welcomed by National Convention Convening Commission member Vice-Chief of Military Intelligence Maj-Gen Kyaw Win and officials. Next, the scholars observed the Plenary Session of the National Convention. They were cordially greeted by Chairman of NCCC State Peace and Development Council Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Thein Sein, Secretary of NCCC Minister for Information Brig-Gen Kyaw Hsan, Chairman of NCC Work Committee Chief Justice U Aung Toe and committee members at Pyidaungsu Hall.

The scholars had documentary photos taken inside and in front of Pyidaungsu Hall. Afterwards, MRTV-3 interviewed Prof Daw Win Win Kyi and member of the study group, Dr Jon Abdullah Yasin of Harvard University concerning the National Convention.

Next, the scholars had their breakfast hosted by NCCC at Anawrahta Yeiktha of Nyaunghnapin Camp. The scholars toured Nyaunghnapin Camp and left there at 10 am.

Prime Minister General Khin Nyunt receives guests from USA

YANGON, 10 July —Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Prime Minister General Khin Nyunt received a scholars group representing the Myanmar Youth Association, the Teachers Across Borders USA, People to People Group and Myanmar.

Women (New York) of America who are here for cooperation in Myanmar education sector at the Zeyathiri Beikman on Konmyinttha here at 4 pm today.

Also present on the occasion together with the Prime Minister were Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung, Minister for Education U Than Aung, Minister for Labour U Tin Winn, Minister at the Prime Minister'sOffice Maj-Gen Thein Swe, Vice-Chief of Military Intelligence Maj-Gen Kyaw Win, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win, senior military officers, Director-General at the Prime Minister'sOffice U Soe Tint and Director-General Thura U Aung Htet of Protocol Department.
